Meanwhile, King Stephen of Bosnia, whom she loves but cannot marry due to political reasons, also is exiled to America. When both are forced by circumstances to get jobs, they go to work for wealthy New York meat packer Adolph Lauman who soon decides that his daughter should marry Stephen for social status.
